What is Nutritional Medicine?

Nutritional Medicine refers to the science of how the constituents in our food such as macro nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) and micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) interact with the biochemical processes and pathways in our body. That is the simple definition however, it is far more complex than that. There are other chemicals and constituents in food that can contribute to either positive or negative health outcomes.

It is a holistic form of healing and recognises that everyone is unique and focuses on an individualised approach to treatment. What works best for you, may not work best for your family members, friends or neighbour. We look at the connection between our diet, lifestyle and environment and how these factors interact and impact our overall health.

As a Nutritional Medicine practitioner, I will review your medical health history and diet in great detail, analyse blood tests, refer you for further testing if required and work with you to create a personalised treatment and nutritional plan to achieve your health goals. The focus is on disease prevention and management through personalised nutrition plans and in some cases prescriptions using high quality, practitioner only supplements.

Nutritional medicine is instrumental in reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, in lowering cholesterol, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and much more. Let me show you how to optimise your health through nutrition!
